Happy 21st Birthday to my First Born
21 years ago, on this day, I became a mom. Surrounded by lots of happiness and dreams, you came into this world, even though I wasn’t exactly sure what was going on in my world. The only thing I knew was that I was no longer just a daughter, wife, or sister, but I was promoted to one of the best roles in this world - a mother. At that young age, I wasn’t sure if I fully understood just how blessed and privileged I was that God chose me to become a mom, and moreover I had been entrusted with the incredible privilege and responsibility of being a mother.
. From that day onwards, we started a new journey. We grew and
learned side by side. You make me proud in many ways, and I love watching you
grow into the beautiful, strong young lady you have become. Today, you are not
just my daughter, but also my sister, my motivator, my best friend - someone
who knows me well and with whom I can share anything. . Your presence in my
life is a constant reminder of God’s blessings. You’ve shown me that women can
be beautiful and intelligent, taught me the amazing feeling of standing up for
myself, and demonstrated that I can be friends with a sister who is your total
opposite. You’ve also taught your brother to respect women and that boys don’t
always get to win. You’ve grown into an amazing young woman, the individual I
always wished I could be, and the answer to dreams that were not true for
myself. You are beautiful, confident, smart, and well-liked by everyone. You
shine in everything you do. At 21, you are so mature and independent. I am so
proud to see how you are a responsible sister and how your siblings look up to
you. 21 means a lot in this world. You are entering adulthood, a world of
freedom. Along with freedom comes more responsibility. There will be more
decisions for you to make, with your maturity and wisdom, I have no doubt
you’ll navigate this new chapter with grace and integrity. As I have been reminding
you and your siblings, whatever decisions you make, always seek God’s will
first and ask yourself ‘Why’ you want to do this. Never forget to answer your
‘Why’s behind your action. As in 1 Peter 2: 16, “Live as free people, but do
not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves.” When you
enjoy your freedom, make sure you use it to fulfill God’s purpose in your life.
Freedom is not a pass to do whatever we want. Use your freedom wisely. It’s
like having a superpower that comes with great responsibility. Sometimes it can
be tempting to use our freedom as a cover-up for doing things we know we
shouldn’t. But then remember we are not just free individuals, but also God’s
servants. So, we need to make sure we don’t misuse our freedom. Instead, let’s
use it to bring honor to God and show His love to everyone around us. In our
families, friendships, workplaces, and even with strangers, let’s shine with
God’s love and grace. When we embrace this kind of freedom, we become agents of
positive change in the world. We’re no longer self-centered but driven by love
and service. Our lives make a difference, even in the smallest acts of
kindness. Don’t ever stop chasing your dreams and passions. Always remember
that being successful is not about getting the best job or being the happiest
person in the world, but it is about being content with what God has given you;
it is about using God-given talents and resources to the best of your ability
for His glory, walking with God justly, and facing the challenges of your life
gracefully. Life is not always fair, but be sure to stand up against evil,
don’t be afraid to say No, and speak up for what’s right. Never compare
yourself with others because you are unique in every way. Be confident in
yourself and remember you are chosen by God, and you are perfect just as you
are. As I always say, you are a part of me, so always remember as long as I
breathe, I will be there for you. Love you so much. Happy 21st Birthday Leya!”
