Perseveranvce
“May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.” 2 Thessalonians 3:5
This is a very meaningful wish or prayer of Paul the apostle for
the fellow believers of Thessalonica. Here the emphasis is on Love and
Perseverance. Love of God is the subject we always focus on and pray for the grace
to experience it. We see God’s amazing love by the act of giving his only
begotten son for us. But what is Perseverance and how Jesus’s Perseverance
should impact our lives. The Word Perseverance has a deep meaning. It means “continued effort to do or achieve something despite
difficulties, failure, or opposition”The perseverance of Jesus was
unexplainable. During the time when he got suffered on the cross, the blames he
got from this world and all the problems he faced
while on earth, we can see his perseverance. As human beings we can’t even
imagine how he went through all these sufferings. Still he never failed, he won
the cross and attained his goal set by his father GOD. . So when Paul says to
direct your heart towards Christ’s perseverance, what is he pointing to? In
this world, we go through lot of sufferings. If it is in the form of an illness
or death of a loved one for someone, it can be financial problems or marriage
problems for others. We get hurt by others harsh words, blames can deeply wound
our minds. We often faces situations where we wonder why this happened to me. Difficulties,
failures and oppositions are meant to be there in this earthly life. But don’t
give up, direct our hearts to Christ’s perseverance and God’s love. It is not
that easy to ignore those who argue with us, or not to blame the situations
that is not right according to our opinion. Sometimes we really want to change
ourselves, so instead of gushing our anger through our mouth to those people
who hurt us, we try to swallow everything. I often used to believe if I don’t say
anything loud, its ok. But remember, our God is not just seeing you from
outside, but he knows your thoughts before we think them (Psalms 137:2). So
when we think something bad and do eye rolling towards the person who hurts us,
remember God is looking into your hearts. He is asking us to forgive and be
respectful. So let’s pray that God will direct our hearts to His love and help
us to remember the perseverance of Jesus, when we experience unfair situations,
when we get hurt with harsh words and when we get blamed for unexpected things.
Lets not focus on the troubles of this world, but direct our thoughts only
towards the love and perseverance that we see upon the cross.
